The Prayer at Valley Forge
(Listen!)
I ADMIT that I've taken some
liberties with this page, but I felt it was an important part of the
reflection of the man. I noticed, for instance, the songs recorded by Vaughn
Monroe that speak of a love of God and Country. It is encouraging to me to hear
Vaughn's recordings of these songs, which speak of a Christian faith.

The Sacred Romance is the title of a book by Brent
Curtis and John Eldredge. Several excerpts are included here because of the
connection that can be drawn between the truths that Brent and John express
in their book, and the elements of the Sacred Romance that to me are present
in the music and stories sung, acted and otherwise communicated through the
work of Vaughn Monroe. "Indeed, if we will listen, a
Sacred Romance calls to us through our heart every moment of our lives. It
whispers to us on the wind, invites us through the laughter of good friends,
reaches out to us through the touch of someone we love. We've heard it in
our favorite music...been drawn to it while watching the shimmer of a sunset
on the ocean. The romance is even present in times of great personal
suffering... Something calls to us through experiences like these and rouses
an inconsolable longing deep within our heart, wakening in us a yearning for
intimacy, beauty, and adventure...And the voice that calls to us in this
place is none other than the voice of God."
