Flying is Vaughn Monroe's favorite sport. He is a

licensed pilot and owns two planes - a single-engine

Bellanca and a twin-engine Cessna.

In the cockpit of his Lockheed-12 plane he checks with

the control tower before a takeoff.

He is probably the only bandleader who has taken to the air seriously,

flying from one engagement to another. By reducing the travel time between

 one-nighters, he gains more time to devote to the business of the band.
