Synopsis: |
The adventures of Ben Cartwright and his sons as they run and defend their ranch while helping the surrounding community. The Cartwright's thousand-square-mile Ponderosa Ranch is located near Virginia City, Nevada, site of the Comstock Silver Lode, during and after the Civil War. Each of the sons was born to a different wife of Ben's; none of the mothers is still alive. Adventures are typical western ones, with lots of personal relationships/problems thrown in as well. Commentary: |
The segment of "Bonanza" on which I worked was filmed on Paramount's back lot...Western Street, as it was known on the lot. The interiors were filmed on stage 5...the interior of the Ponderosa. A segment of "Bonanza" took 6 days to shoot...they were anywhere from 12 to 16 hour days. A 60 hour work week was the norm. Contributed by Ed Thompson who was a set lighting technician for the episode in which Vaughn guest starred. |
